New Beginnings: The New Democratic Party

Published on 18 May 2026 at 1:18 pm

Too many New Zealanders feel that there is no party to represent them anymore. National seems more concerned about helping their Big Business mates while Labour forgot about working people in the 1980s and these days seems more concerned about woke ideas that are out of touch with most New Zealanders. The New Democratic Party represents a new beginning for those kiwis who are fed up with the politics of the two old parties and who want politics to be concerned with the same things they are concerned with- decent well-paid jobs, affordable housing, a health system that works, law & order, and a clean green environment that we and future generations can enjoy.

New Democrats will ensure that governments do not bailout Big corporates. Poor managers will face the consequences of their decisions. Public funds will be used wisely and effectively to help those who are in genuine need. Welfare should be a temporary hand up not a permanent handout.  We are also determined to have an education system that enables all our young people to succeed here in New Zealand - without having to go overseas.

We oppose the hollowing out effects of Crony Capitalism that dominates our economy with no regard for local communities and families.  In contrast New Democrats are about promoting genuine free enterprise, allowing local communities to make decisions in matters that impact them. Decision making at the most appropriate level (subsidiarity) is core to what we believe. We will use a Single Transferable Vote system to rebuild a healthy democracy where our elected representatives advocate for the local communities they represent rather than serving a party hierachy to get a list seat.

We are building a political movement for the long haul. Follow us on Facebook or read our blog for further updates. Email us at newdemocratsnz@gmail.com to join our mailing list.
